Resiliency

EFC staff have experience in evaluating planning and management options in support of goals for resilient and reliable infrastructure systems. From research on resilience for water and energy management, to planning studies that support multi-objective management, EFC staff help communities and utilities build capacity for managing resources to support future populations and ecosystems.

Resilience Planning: Tools and Resources for Communities

For centuries, cities and communities have built infrastructure and developed plans to deal with disaster threats. Modern disaster preparedness planning and practices that help reduce the vulnerability and risk associated with natural and man-made hazards are encompassed by the term ‘resilience.’ As part of its work to support communities in EPA Region 9, the EFC at Sacramento State compiled a list of existing resources and toolkits to assist local agencies and communities in resilience planning. The EFC also developed a complimentary document that describes resilience planning in general, defines relevant terms, and offers suggestions for stakeholder engagement.
